SBM in Brazil yard tie-up for FPSOs

SBM in Brazil yard tie-up for FPSOs

SBM Offshore has entered into an agreement with Synergy Group to develop a new yard in Brazil for integration work on offshore facilities, including FPSOs.
The new yard, to be located at Niteroi, is intended for fabrication and pre-commissioning of topside modules and other systems and equipment, and also for integration and commissioning on floating production, storage and offloading vessels.
The newly formed partnership will also jointly own and operate a floating crane that will be upgraded to heavy-lift requirements of more than 500 tonnes for lifting FPSO modules onto the floater deck.
The tie-up is geared to meeting the high-level local content requirements of the Brazilian market, where several large FPSO projects are expected to be developed in the coming years.
SBM Offshore will be responsible for the overall project and site management activities, while Synergy subsidiary Naval Ventures, with which the pact has been formally signed, will provide the key assets and offshore construction expertise.
“With this partnership SBM Offshore has secured access to alternative construction and integration capacity at a time when an imbalance is foreseen in the coming years between the local demand and the availability of qualified fabricators for topside modules, and of FPSO quaysides,” the company said in a statement.
“Such long-term independent solutions will permit SBM Offshore to continue to develop robust proposals for new projects while increasing the proportion of local content, and therefore supports the company's ambitions to grow its portfolio in the Brazilian market.”
